About
Beat the heat by riding to fountains and splash pads with other kids and families as part of Kidical Mass PDX! We will ride from Jamison Square in NW on this free, family-friendly, kid-paced bike ride.
We’ll start at the Jamison Square fountain at 1pm, and ride around central Portland to 3 other fountains where kids and grown-ups can splash around. August 3rd it often the warmest day of the year, so this will be a great time to beat the heat by celebrating our downtown interactive fountains.
Meet at 1:15pm, ride at 1:30pm. The ride is a loop. It's just one mile to the second fountain at Director Park and the next two are each a half mile apart on the waterfront, and then it is 1.5 miles back to the start for a total loop of 3.5 miles, so it is suitable for most young bike riders who can pedal their own bike without training wheels. Bring swimwear, sunscreen and water! We should be back around 4 pm.
We will ride at a slow pace for little pedalers and parents on cargo bikes. Kids should wear a helmet, be able to balance and pedal in a straight line, start and stop. Cargo bikes, tandems, trailers and tag-a-longs are great for kids who haven’t learned to pedal. Adult corkers are welcome to join as a traffic safety superheroes.
We’ll ride together as a group, no matter the weather, because kids are traffic too!
