Acerca de A message from our ride leader: We did this ride two years ago and had such fun we're doing it again. The area around the Columbia Slough is an eclectic mix of natural areas, industrial properties, and underdeveloped/abandoned lots interconnected with wide freight-friendly roads and several trails tucked away. Some of those trails are sanctioned and manicured, others are a bit more DIY and, well, neither sanctioned nor manicured. Let's ride out and explore them! Meet at Alberta Park at 9:30 and ride at 10. The route will mostly be the same (40 miles and 1,000 ft elevation), no major climbs but a few short punchy ones. The lunch stop will be the food trucks at Level Beer on 148th (at mile 20). The pace will be lively but not a suffer-fest. There will be several periodic regroups, particularly after tricky off-road sections where the group might get spread out a bit and we'll also wait on flats or other mechanicals. We will need to keep the pace to get back at a reasonable time so expect a pace on flat straight sections to be around 14-16 mph as an estimate. If all goes as expected we should return to Alberta park around 4pm. Bring a bike well suited to mixed terrain including everything from singletrack to railroad ballast to grass. You will need to be able to lift your bike over low obstructions and carry your bike down a flight of stairs, for this reason we do not recommend cargo bikes or heavy e-bikes on this ride.
